Smolenskoye Poozyorye National Park pays special attention to each guest, striving to make visiting the park as comfortable as possible. Not all locations of the park were accessible for low-mobility groups. In order to make visiting the park convenient, we developed a concept of the Eco-trail ‘Without Barriers’ improvement, ensuring comfortable movement through its territory.
Our team, together with an initiative group of people with low mobility, developed a concept for the improvement of the eco-trail. The project includes architectural solutions for the arrangement of viewing and interactive and educational platforms, as well as a typology of unique information stands and photo zones.
Scenarios have been developed for the use of the route
Designed decking with ramp system for comfortable movement
Unique small architectural forms and installations reflecting the peculiarities of the national park were created
Viewing platforms, recreation areas and parking are organised
The circular walking route along the lake in the National Park is very popular with visitors. We have made it wheelchair-friendly. The route geometry, gradients and decking are adapted for mobility impaired people, allowing all tourists to walk the route comfortably, enjoy nature and learn interesting facts about local flora and fauna.
The route is integrated into the existing infrastructure of the reserve and allows for an enhanced user experience and site connectivity. The eco-trail and adjacent areas are conveniently zoned to make visitors' stay comfortable.
Along the route of the eco-trail, the climbing angles and configurations are calibrated to prevent the wheelchair from rolling away. There are different types of surfaces, decking and earth, to diversify the interaction experience.
The existing trail was widened to include a pontoon dock for pleasant relaxation and observation by the water.
Entrance points, viewing platforms and resting places are equipped with information media that make a walk along the trail more informative. A series of ‘Beasts of the Lakeland’ and a set of installations have been developed for installation along the trail.
All design solutions have been realised by the park staff and continue the principles of the improvement.
