In most Russian cities, the bicycle infrastructure is still at the stage of active development and does not always meet safety and comfort requirements. This problem is especially acute with the growing popularity of short-term rental services for electric scooters and bicycles.
At the request of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives and in consortium with colleagues from the industry, we have developed Velorukovodstvo, a Solutions Album based on international practices and adapted for Russian cities. The Velorukovodstvo presents many practical examples of implementing infrastructure for micromobility. The document is aimed at transport engineers, architects and representatives of city administrations, who face the task: to create a convenient and safe infrastructure for micromobility in the conditions of limited urban space.
Velorukovodstvo is a concentrated experience of those who create the infrastructure of cities and those who use it. It will serve as a roadmap for municipalities that are cautious about new mobility and do not know where to start in tackling this task.
The document provides answers to questions about how to develop cycling infrastructure and improve road safety at the same time, how individual mobility contributes to the urban economy, and when a bicycle or scooter is more convenient than a car.
